Description

Imaged the conjunction of Earth's moon and Mars on the night of December 7/8, 2022.  This image was taken at 11:10 pm EDT on 12/7 near minimum separation as viewed from my location.  This image was generated using my standard planetary imaging setup (C8 SCT + 2x barlow giving ~4000 mm focal length).  The pairing of the Moon and Mars just barely fit in the field of view with the ASI224MC camera. I was able to grab a few captures before the separation between the pair became to great to fit in the FOV.  At that point, I switched over to an ASI533MC which has a much wider FOV but a slower frame rate and those images didn't turn out as well due to the low frame rate and deteriorating sky conditions.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader UV-IR Cut filter, and ZWO ASI224MC. Imaging train was configured to give me ~F/20. Image capture using Firecapture with gain set at 350 and an exposure of 4 ms. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 50% of ~850 frames). Color balancing and Wavelet sharpening in Registax6.  Additional processing in PixInsight:  local histogram transformation and color saturation adjustment.  Noise reduction using Topaz DeNoise AI.
